Bendigo Theatre Company is a local theatre company dedicated to
producing high quality theatre. Located in the regional victorian
town of Bendigo, BTC is engaged in numerous productions every year,
including musicals , full-length dramatical pieces and a number of
one act plays.
These pages and Links provide some information about the company,
including its history, current productions, committee, recent awards
and how you can get involved.
The Bendigo Operatic Society was formed in 1952 to offer the community the opportunity to be
involved in an active and enthusiastic company where they could enjoy and participate in many
facets of theatre. Their first production was the Chocolate Soldier. It was staged at the
Capital Theatre and opening night, march 17th 1953, was a huge success. In 1980 the company
changed its name to the Bendigo Theatre Company.
We aim to provide opportunities for members of the community to enjoy and develop their theatrical
talents locally and to gain experience needed to achieve their goals for future careers. We are
delighted that many have attained these goals and are now working at a professional level.
Each year we are privileged to be associated with over 6000 members of our community, involved in
production teams and behind the scenes activities, as cast members and musicians, and as patrons
who support our productions. We also acknowledge the many businesses who sponsor us financially
by means of donations and advertising.
June 27th, 1997, opening night for Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, marked our 100th
musical production. The company is proud to state that it has been able to produce between two
and three productions each year for the past 53 years.
The company has stepped forward to establish a theatre school, a component designed to provide a
training ground for actors. It specialises in developing improvisation skills, text analysis
and performance techniques by means of workshops and drama productions.
Wave theatre have produced a number of successful productions since 1997 and continues to provide
quality drama to the local community and represents Bendigo at the Victorian regional one-act
play festivals.
There has always been a number of volunteers assisting with the many
aspects of theatre, such as
lighting, sound, back stage, wardrobe, make-up, publicity, construction
of sets and general maintenance and renovations of our premises in
Allingham street, Golden Square but we are continually looking for more
assistance. There is more to
theatre than acting. If you are interested in being part of this
dynamic company, contact us via
